I think it was Rick Volker that told me about a guy who beat the shit
out of a Stearman, and when the crankshaft broke, the prop laid down
and decapitated him.

A friend of mine lost a (metal) blade in his Christen Eagle, and when
it ripped the engine from the mounts, it punched quite a dent in the
top wing.  Then the aircraft started tumbling, of course.  His C of G
was a tad aft.  Somehow he got out and pulled the D-ring.  He's a
four-bar, actually.
