I was airborne when this happened and could hear another aircraft relay his information to ATC. Interesting to hear the interaction between them and ATC coordinating SAR. Happy to report the Pilot is OK

"engine failure" on an M-20J?! I used to have one. They have a rock-solid
Lycoming angle valve four cylinder IO-360 making 200hp. I would happily
fly it across the North Atlantic.
I shall be interested to learn the cause of this "engine failure".

Guy took off from Palo Alto recently, I think it was a Baron. Double engine
failure after takeoff.

of old ones that people aren't interested in learning about. Bob Hoover had
that FBO Jet-A trick played on him, but I guess nobody is interested in that
any more.
That Baron at Palo Alto, didn't have the small necks retrofitted to the filler
necks, allowing the FBO refueller to stick the larger JET-A nozzles into it.
Apparently it's not a paperwork requirement to install those collars on older
aircraft, so you're good to go without them.
