I had one that felt that close, but wasn’t really. I was on final in a borrowed 172 and a Cherokee 235 slid right in ahead of me out of nowhere.

Cameras tend to make things look farther away than they really were, so this video is extra wild.

I don't think that was a "near miss" - I think it would be a "near hit".

In fact, I think it was a "miss"?

I remember that skit, probably where my brain went after seeing the video. Man he was funny.

Even with everyone equipped with ADS-B and in contact with ATC,
people still manage to have mid-air collisions, like this one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Cent ... _collision

You can watch it happen in real time. No one said or saw anything despite
all the toys and technology.

Observations:

1) recent article lately stressing that Tower does not separate aircraft
in the air. Only on the runway.

2) Metro didn't even know that he had a mid-air - he just thought the
right engine failed. Meta-lesson: when bad shit happens in the air,
you probably won't understand exactly what happened. This does not
help you deal optimally with the situation. See "Fog Of War" by von clausewitz,
which like Sun Tzu ought to be required reading for an ATP.

3) Look outside. No new causes of aviation this year.
