I am not making this crazy shit up.

Un-fucking believable.
After finding out both of the attempted carjackers have extensive criminal histories, the family – still shaken from the traumatic incident – wonder what the suspects were doing loose on the street.
“Both of them have a rap sheet a mile long, and they’re out there on the street terrorizing the public,†said the father, adding, “lock these guys up that are violent like this and throw the key away.â€
His mother said she could hardly bear to see the son who had just saved her from two attackers put in handcuffs, and now worries the men will come back for revenge.
“What if it was your wife, your mother or your daughter?†She asked, now afraid to open her doors in her own neighbourhood.
Benjamin MacIntyre, 23, and Raymond Cardinal, 26, have both been charged with robbery.
Johnathan Tews, 24, was charged with aggravated assault and will appear before a judge on Sept. 15.
Sadly this isn't an isolated case
It took two and a half years, but Port Colborne, Ont., resident Ian Thomson is finally done defending himself. First he fought the men who tried to murder him. Then, his own government.
Mr. Thomson was charged with four crimes: careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm and two charges of careless storage of a firearm, one for each of the pistols he had removed from his gun safe (the second, a 9mm pistol, was never fired during the incident). The first two charges were dropped — it’s hard to imagine a more cut-and-dry case of lawful self defence than firing on men trying to burn down your home while you’re inside it. But the Crown insisted on pursuing the charges of careless storage.
I keep a sidearm in a safe by my bedside, but I shudder at the potential hardship that I will have to endure defending myself from my own government should I ever have to use it to defend myself against what goes bump in the night.

I was more frightened last time I was at West Edmonton mall at night than Renton Washington. Parts of Seattle seem about even.

It's fascinating how consistently enraged the
Canadian government gets, when citizens
reasonably attempt to defend themselves.
This is not isolated. This is not the work of
a rogue prosecutor.
This is blatant systemic contempt for citizen's
rights and health.
Such government does not serve the citizens.
It serves itself.
Why such a poor government is tolerated is
mystifying.

The government is absolutely paranoid
about citizens owning firearms. Their
behaviour in this respect is simply bizarre.
an outrageous breach of public trust — police taking an opportunity
to snoop through people’s private homes and seize their property under the
cover of an emergency.
This week, the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP
concluded the same. In its long-awaited report into the affair it found
that the police had indeed acted unlawfully.
That's what the conventional wisdom says, but having read a few accounts of people who have tested that theory I'm not so sure. I've actually considered taking out this insurance: http://www.firearmlegaldefence.com/ $95 per year for $500,000 in legal fees (max $150,000 per occurrence). I find it interesting that I can get $5,000,000 in liability insurance that covers all legal shooting activities for $9.95 (shooting sports are basically a non-risk as far as insurers are concerned) in case someone sues me, but 1/10 worth of protection from my own government will cost me 10 times as much.
