I used the article he wrote as required reading for trainees, which was where the slide material is from in an effort to make engines last longer. The slides are nice though, I may start using them instead.
Maybe you'd be surprised. OR not. Feel free to continue to hate us all equally.

I was the one that had to leave Canada when it got too hot.
TC told the Chief of Police of my home town that I was flying coke up from Columbia.
Which of course was total BS. I've never even been to South America. That was really
fucking uncomfortable. Everyone I met was convinced I was a drug smuggler, and why
wouldn't they? That's what the Chief of Police said. He believed TC's BS.
I tried to visit Canada, and my laptop and phone were seized. Never got them back,
never will. I am not allowed to own property in Canada. I get the message. Stay away,
or else.
These days, for my own safety, I try to stay at least 1000 miles away from Canada.
There's lots of hate in Canada, but not from me. So, lay off the projection.
NB: In the past, I have whined to Dear Old Dad, the Fanged Fighter Pilot about
this. His response: "The FAA didn't like Bob Hoover much, either".
I guess I should take my disenfranchisement as a compliment, but I'm still not
1% of the pilot Bob Hoover was. Never will be. Personally, I think I peaked as a
pilot in my 40's.

Not sure how you figure that, but whatever. From my side it just comes off like the rest of us are beneath you, and every thread you take the pains to make sure we know. You can take that for what its worth. Now if that's not your intent, you may review perhaps your style. Sounds like a crime was committed if you were falsely accused of a crime to the police. But the good news is there are at least a few that appreciate the info, such as the engine failure in a twin scenario(and some of the stories). Not so much the singing parrot though, but will put up with it, I suppose.

Mike has religion. That often gets in the way of rational thought.
Specifically, Mike has LOP religion. Let's look at this slide:
With all due respect to Mike, tens of thousands of engines have run
for MILLIONS of hours in what he alarmingly calls the "Red Box".
This is complete nonsense. If you believed Mike, you'd think that
the biggest problem we have with Lycomings is the heads failing
and blowing off the steel cylinders.
That isn't exactly the case. When was the last time you were flying
and a cylinder head failed catastrophically, departing the engine?
Mike is blinded by his religion. We have discussed this. He does
not think I am a very nice young man. That's ok.
I am data-driven. Sometimes this leads me to observations and
conclusions that hurt people's feelings. Ok.
For example, I might observe that the runway at my home airport
has the centerline sprayed with student-repelling paint. That might
be a valid conclusion from the collected data, and it might cause
delicate flowers to burst into tears. Ok.
But riddle me this: how is a generation raised on Family Guy, The
Simpsons and South Park so easily and permanently offended?
Sometime, read "The Great Santini". I'd appreciate 1000 words,
which is only 100 words per chapter. There is no way I could keep
it down to that.
PS No cheating and watching the movie, ok? It leaves out a LOT.

Hasn't happened to me, though I have seen a few cylinders that weren't going to make another flight without something really bad happening. I also did refuse to fly a poor Cessna once, that sounded terribly, and though it didn't have even a CHT guage, one of the heads broke loose when they ran it up again. One of the first times I had to tell a boss to fuck off, and unfortunately not the last.That isn't exactly the case. When was the last time you were flying

But that said, no there isn't an epidemic of failing cylinders out there. But I don't feel all is lost from what Mike has to say. Its reasonable to suppose that higher head temps aren't good for the cylinders, and that I have seen borne out in practice at least in commercial service. His basics on leaning is something lots of pilots I know should read.

Oh, I quite agree with that. Interestingly, low cylinder head temps are very bad, too.Its reasonable to suppose that higher head temps aren't good for the cylinders
Agreed that leaning is something that pilots need to do more of, for no other reason than:
(1) running out of fuel is bad, and
(2) fouled spark plugs can cancel your flight
Here is the data log for the CHT's from my last flight
Note that I lean for hottest cylinder just under 380F in cruise to the waivered airspace which is 12 GPH at 20 inches.
Prop 2700, mixture rich and boost pump goes on for surface acro at 13:16 ...
and mixture/prop comes back at 13:25 when I pop back up to cruise altitude for the x/c back to my home airport.
Don't run your cylinders too cool! That's at least as important as not running them too hot.
