Big news here in Alberta over the last few days. DHC is going big building their own production facilities and airport.

Not often we see new airports built in this country so this is great news.

I am hopeful they will allow GA at their airport and maybe build some hangars which are at a premium around here.

Springbank hangars are half full of car, Airdrie doesn’t allow new builds just old tent structures.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited (DHC) announced on Sept. 21 that it plans to build a new aircraft manufacturing facility as part of a 1,500-acre campus in Wheatland County, Alberta — just 30 minutes east of Calgary. The campus, to be called De Havilland Field, will feature an aircraft assembly facility, parts manufacturing and distribution centers, a maintenance repair and overhaul center, a runway, educational space to train a future workforce, general office buildings, and a De Havilland Canada aircraft museum.

I didn't even know it was legal to have aircraft manufacturing outside of Quebec?

Always thought making airplanes out west on the Prairies made the most sense anyway.
Take a look at ICT, middle of the continent tons of airspace to play, no traffic , cheap housing for the workers and land to grow on.

Meanwhile over at Bombardier the Laurentien elites must know more about manufacturing than some F150 driving prairie hicks as they have broken ground at YYZ on their new 400 million dollar Global completion centre. https://canada.constructconnect.com/dcn ... on-airport

Why on earth they would pay Toronto Pearson YYZ costs for a barn to build jets in is beyond me. Everytime I need to fly in there its delayed or EDCT times 2+ hours from my proposal. highest landing fees and fuel costs in the country with shit service and endless contruction delays and curfews.

DHC didn't diclose the cost yet. However ill bet you a tank of L39 Fuel all the land they bought in Wheatland County was cheaper than the lawyer fees Bombadiers paid on that new 400 Million dollar facility.

I guess when you're Full Retard™ thats how you run a aerospace company into the ground. That and having a direct line to the PM to bail you out when the inevitable happens.

Best thing to happen to Canadian Aviation in a long time getting this out of that family and away from there.

I bet there will be a number of BBD/DHC Toronto employees selling their YYZ homes for a couple million and buying a bigger home on land out here for "cheap" and never looking back.

We had a contract to survey Wheatland county this year. Wonder if the money for that came from this proposal. Lots of relatively cheap land out there.
The details of my life are quite inconsequential...
