Provincetown: A Cape Air Cessna 402 from Boston with six passengers and a pilot went off the runway while landing at about 3:30 p.m. at Provincetown Municipal Airport. The plane burst into flames. All people on board escaped and were taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Cape Air flight KAP345, from Boston-Logan International Airport, MA (BOS/KBOS), to Provincetown Airport, MA (PVC/KPVC), was on an instrument landing system approach to runway 07 when it went off the departure end through a fence and on to a road at Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC/KPVC), Massachusetts. The airplane was destroyed during the accident sequence. The pilot and six passengers survived with serious injuries.Heavy rain/a storm was reported at the time of the accident.From the National Weather Service: “At 312 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a thunderstorm capable of producing a waterspout over Cape Cod Bay, near Wellfleet, or 10 miles southeast of Provincetown, moving northeast at 30 mph.” This was the doppler radar in velocity mode at that time. – Meter:KPVC 091937Z AUTO 21010KT 3SM +RA BR FEW002 BKN034 OVC050 21/21 A2979
