I don't do much ab initio any more,
but I'm training a 16 yr old on his
father's RV (nosewheel, alas) and
what a pleasure. A sponge. I had
him take the traditional ground school
at a large flight school nearby.
The kid is young and has great aptitude -
on his 6th dual flight, he is landing the
airplane (w/constant speed prop)
by himself :D
Get him a medical next week, then
send him solo!
I seem to spend most of my time giving
flight training, un-teaching people things.

Its hard to believe that the norm these days is a brand new pilot teaching ab initio training.

Or at least that what the flying schools are pushing.....
Nice work! Tell him to wear a real nice shirt for his solo day and get the scissors ready!

He is fortunate to have an instructor who will teach him how to fly an aircraft.
Instead of one who teaches all the Voodoo and B.S. make believe so loved by today's flight training puppy mills.
