I was talking to a guy last night who is also waiting on a medical to be issued by TC.  He has everything else finished on his PPL but can’t have it signed off until his Cat 3 medical shows up.  Sounds to me like TC is backed up or somebody retired and they forgot to replace them or something.

They've had my laptop and phone for 2.5 years now.  They don't move fast.

My question is does it make any difference if they never send you a letter or some other form of communication that the doctor who did the medical knew what he/she was doing when he/she told you you passed the medical requirements?


I don't have the payment records handy but I think it is over three months since I had my medical and so far nothing from T.C.


What do people who fly for a living do about it?

No news is good news.  Go flying.

TC isn't bright enough to realize it, but taking years to respond
to a six month medical is completely dysfunctional.

Let's say TC takes 2 years to come back and say yes, your
class 1 medical was valid for six months starting the date
of your medical.

Does anyone see a problem here?  Anyone that's ever held
a real job in the private sector?

Just go flying.  If TC doesn't care, why should you?

To answer your question, Chuck, when I get a TC medical, the Dr. stamps  my booklet.  Good to go for six-seven months unless TC advises otherwise.
Now you mentioned you did not have a license booklet.  Regardless of the reason you did not get a new one, that just might have caused you some difficulty, as the Dr. cannot sign off on a booklet you do not have.
And before you ask whether you should get a booklet on spec....yes you should have.

I did not know that.


I thought they sent you a sticker to put in your license but if you don't need one and you need a medical every six months then you could never need one, correct?  :-\

Correct, he wouldn't sign an expired license.


My reason for not getting a new one is simple, I was not flying so did not need one.

Actually I don't need a license at the moment so I will wait and see if they send me one of those stickers, I have never seen one and it gives me something exciting to look forward [/font]to.  :)


If they take more than six months to send you that sticker which you don't need because you need another medical do they rescind that $55.00 tax they put on the service, or lack of service?

[font=Verdana]The Dr stamps your license.  You are good to go.  The timing of the sticker is really not of importance with regard to your validation.[/font]

You might think that's the case, but no.

I was asked to clean up after a guy who issued a bunch of L29
type ratings, after getting his class one medical renewed.  TC
sent him a letter, months later, saying they disagreed with the
doctor's assessment, he actually had only a class three, and
that meant that all the L29 type ratings he had issued after the
medical were invalidated, because you need a comm/atp to
issue type ratings.

Maybe TC should just stick to gang ass-raping the President's
children and grand-children.

My experience is different, not that it's any surprise.  On my first medical renewal I got the sticker for my booklet.  The second time around I didn't receive one so I called TC.  They told me I didn't need one.  I slowly put it together that the reason I got one the first time was because the certificate changed, I went from 'Glasses must be available' to 'Glasses must be worn'.  I gather that if the conditions of the medical don't change, they don't send you a sticker and the doctor's stamp is gold, if there's any change in conditions they'll send you a stamp.


Chuck, if I'm going to make a wild-assed guess, I'd bet the medical folks at TC don't know you don't have a current booklet, for which you'd need the sticker.  I bet they think you've got the doctor's stamp so they think you're good to go.  Any bets the folks that issue the booklets never talk to the folks that process medical exams?

Well one thing I can say for sure and that is I should have waited until we get the helicopter before I got the medical.  :)


So I won't make the same mistake with getting a new license booklet or what ever it is called, I have two years to get the thing because all I need is a private license to fly a private registered helicopter.
