What guarantee of anonymity does one have on internet forums?
What is to stop anyone from posting the real identity of another poster?
Anonymity?
Sure it would probably affect who posts on the forum.
However if you met someone and you both got into talking to each other and after some time passed you introduced yourself but the other person would not tell you who he/she was how would that affect further discussions?

Unfortunately anonymity is an intoxicating and empowering
drug for assholes.
I found that if you invite obnoxious internet jerks to show up
in person and take a swing - back up their brave words with
actions - they never do.
They are inevitably cowards and blowhards that hide in the
shadows and throw rocks at those who don't.

Everything anyone puts on the web is basically accessible forever to anyone who wants it badly enough (ask Jennifer Lawrence). While I try not to be too much of a tool myself I can't guarantee the same of others and for that reason I choose anonymity for the most part. Those who I respect and trust often get my first and last name in PMs but as this is an open forum I don't extend the same courtesy on all of my posts.
tl;dr... Not a troll, just watching my ass.
