I can’t even begin to think of what that panel would cost.
True, a GTN650 would be nice, but I’ll end up with a G5 and GNC 355, perhaps an engine monitor like I currently have in the 180.

I don't begrudge a penny spent on engine monitors.  They are the
answer in the back of the book, and the poor people making them
suffer from high development and certification costs, and extremely
low volumes.

I have a EDM 830 in the 180.  Definitely worth it's weight in gold.

The new(er) bird has an old time 700, EGT/CHT monitor.  Since the probes are already drilled, why not upgrade to a 830/930?

I'd like to piecemeal the panel.  The FP5 fuel totalizer arrives tomorrow. but I think an 830 should be the next purchase.

I would have to learn how to change channels and stuff. :(

Actually, while you're flying, you have no hope of keeping up with the data.

My personal choice in flight is to display all the EGT's.  But it's only after the flight,
when you download MB of CSV data to your USB stick, that you can parse it:

Doesn't that paint an interesting picture!

Each engine has around 20 thermocouples and transducers, being sampled and
stored at 3x per second.  You can learn an awful lot about your engine, if you care.

Incredibly, these people push all the paper for certified aircraft.  TSO's and STC's
out the wazoo.  Even TC can't shut them down.

What sort of interval do you download the data? Each flight, or week, oil changes, etc?

Every day, baby!

I want the push on every piston to be exactly the same
as the push on every other piston.  It hiccups once in
flight, I’m on it like a fat kid on a Smartie.

A modular approach seems like a good way to go without breaking the bank.

I am amazed at what is available for GA aircraft now.

Sandel makes some interesting products that fit into an existing panel.
