You cheap bastards, buy a sandwich onboard.

I of course will be eating the one my wife made because we are such cheap bastards.

Are you allowed to pass a home made sandwich through security?

I will be bringing lots of sardine sandwiches with onions and garlic, pickled eggs, and limburger cheese to munch on. Who'd like to sit beside me and chat for nine hours? It'll be fun!

Once we stopped for burritos on the way to the airport and I had one too many. So it got the styrofoam box. It was my only carry on so I put it on the tray to get X-rayed. They asked what it was and then asked again when I said, "It's a burrito." They were amused and after asking why, they let me and the burrito board.

I don't know how much they would hassle you but as long as it goes through the X-ray machine you should be ok.
