I find it funny how pilots complain about lack of jobs and then in the same breathe they slam new upstarts for even trying. The public complains of lack of choice, then when choice comes they support the status quo. This article out lines some of the issues new start ups are facing quiet well I think for a quick read article from the CBC.
For New Leaf and the rest I say let them try, take the gloves off and let them duke it out, we the consumer and the pilot will be better off.
Tim Morgan raises a good point about foreign ownership restrictions and how they are designed to support the status quo.

I don't know how much better off pilots will be if airlines become American owned.
The only thing that sounds good about being a pilot in a few of the American owned operations, is getting to fly airplanes and eating if your resourceful or have good credit.
Those greenbacks are no good to Morgan. The Canada Transportation Act requires at least 75 per cent of an airline's voting shares be owned and controlled by Canadians.
This is stupid, If some american wants to invest in a Canadian airline why not welcome her money here? won't that create jobs and grow the market to people who can't afford to fly on WJ or AC?

My worry is someone coming here with airplanes that have more seats than the ones usually flying here. Selling tickets for less per seat. Paying the pilots and other employees less. Then shutting down after taking the profits out of Canada never to pay the taxes they owe.
I guess it would not directly affect me as I never finished a CPL and don't fly those cheap airlines that keep shutting down leaving Canadians stranded.
Perhaps I should not voice a concern.
