The age 60 retirement ruling did not come about out of the need to improve public safety. It was implemented by the  FAA  in the late fifties in what seems to be a back room old boys club deal
between the newly appointed Director of the FAA and American Airlines CEO who wanted a Federal law to overturn a mediator's decision after a pilot's strike .
When the  Director retired from the FAA, he was appointed to American Airlines board of directors

Fly with anyone over 60 lately? Too many toys, pissed at the wife, beautiful family, bitches about everything, grumpy as fuck.  ;D
If you can play nicely with others then you can stay past 60...
