A friend of mine needed spark plugs for
his gypsy engine - they cost 50 pounds
each in England, plus shipping.
You will need some whitworth tools (wrenches,
sockets).
Apart from the weird tools, I didn't find it
much different than the ranger, kinner, etc.
Just another engine.

There are car spark plugs that work just fine in the Gypsy engine
Also there is a Slick mag mod that can be done

I've been around and flown a number of well-sorted Gipsy-powered aircraft and none of them have seemed like maintenance hogs. Rocker box oil needs to be changed regularly but it's not difficult, just weird. Other than that they seem like a normal enough engine and the internals look stout as hell. I'm told you want to check logs for inexplicable prop replacements because that's often a sign of an unreported nose-over. Other than that, if you're going to fly lots it might be worth considering how oil is cheaper by the barrel.
What are you looking at buying?

One of the neatest little twin engine airplanes I have flown had Gipsy Queens in it.
You could always find where you last parked it by looking for the oil stains on the pavement.
