I just found a really great site talking about them and appearently there are some in Idaho and Montana. This is good news as that is much closer than the main line further south of me.

I can remember using the airmail navigation lights flying cross country in the USA as late as 1956 or 1957.

Nah we just took a left at the moose and looked for the beaver dam near Jimmy's hunting cabin and bam you found yourself in Flin Flon

Was the dam ever augmented by a light source? I imagine Flin Flon was probably quite well lit by flare stacks later on.

We drove through Idaho last week and I finally stopped to look at one of these it was extra cool because it is complete with tower and generator shack. They painted it all last year to celibrate the 100th anniversary of US airmail.
