Hey Guys.  I have been looking at some Russian Aircraft with the M-14P engine.  From my research I am getting all kinds of varying numbers on engine TBO, from 500hrs to 2000hrs.

Does anyone know what it actually is here in Canada?  Anyone know who overhauls these engines in Canada (I am in western Canada)?  Note: the aircraft would not be certified and would be flying under exemption.

Thanks in advance!

Engine TBO is a completely irrelevant
and abstract statistical concept for private
aircraft, of interest to only actuaries.

All private aircraft engines are run "on
condition" from brand new.  They start
to make beaucoup metal at ten hours
since major overhaul, time for another
overhaul.

I flew an engine with 3400 SMOH the
other night.  Years ago, flew a twin with
5500 SMOH on one of it's Lycomings.

The internal condition of the engine is
far more important than any single
statistic.

And, east bloc stuff is weird.  Not bad,
just completely different.  It may be
cheaper to exchange or simply buy new,
which is what the Nanchang guys do.

You need to join the IAC mailing list - lots
of Sukhoi and Yak acro owners on it.

Thanks Colonel.  New to this private aircraft stuff.  Being flying picky commercial regulations most of my career.

What do you guys think... Cap 232 or Sukhoi Su-26mx?

Oh gosh.  Tighty whities or boxers?  It's
hard for me to answer that question for you!

Fly both and choose whichever one you like.

It's so subjective.  Don't go by just the numbers.

Haha...Yes, I hear ya.

I was thinking that the Cap might be more difficult to support maintenance wise being there are a lot less of them and the manufacturer has gone under.
