Just sifting through articles and such about Canada’s new ADSB requirement and my brain is full.
Let say I got a Cessna 337 and want to fly it typically below 12,500 all over Canada. But on occasion head south to the USA. Would be taking it into busy airspace like around YVR and not so busy like way up north to the NWT.
What the hell do I need to be legal?

I have the tailbeacon (not the X) so I won’t be flying to Canada in my 180… probably ever?
It’s 978 UAT not 1090 ES, or whatever you nerds say it has to be.
Works great for me down here. And there are a ton of occasions I transition through requisite ADS-B airspace which has probably saved the cost in fuel. (I fly a lot).
UAvionix is a great company. I recommend them if you want to get an ADS-B solution.

Ya they seem to be the most straight forward and I like the interface for a new HSI AV-30 which is now STC for the 337.
My DG is the kind of one that when I spin the HDG bug the whole thing spins.
I'm thinking couple the Beacon X to the AV30 and set myself up to make this panel as budget permits

I’ve found a good rule of thumb for avionics costs: price of hardware x2 will be the final install bill.

I would love to toss anything with a vacuum system but
The kooky thing with the 337 is I’ll need to keep the Attitude indicator for the AP until Garmin certified the GFC 500 for the type.

Those engine monitors are incredible:
As you say, all the gauges are gone, replace by one 3 1/8 inch dial with
MP/RPM/Fuel Flow/Oil Pres/Oil Temp and whatever else you choose to
display. I like to see all six EGT's - they change quickest - and also the
EGT-D and CHT-H tell me what I need to know.
EGT-D tells me if I have an unhappy cylinder. CHT-H I set to 380F with the mixture.
Imagine what it would cost to replace these individually if they failed:
The real advantage is the data logging. After every flight I grab the data
with my USB stick and I can see three samples per second of everything -
it makes engine diagnosis so easy!
I remember someone (here?) lecturing me that an "expert" had told him to hammer
the RPM after start, to get oil pressure. I said, well, let's look at some data:
Two seconds after cold start (sitting for a week) it ramps up to 80 psi at 500 RPM.
I've been flying piston/prop for 50 years now, I might keep the RPM down immediately
after start to avoid making metal, regardless of what the newbie internet experts opine,
because I have data and they don't.

I haven’t read up on our upcoming ADS-B requirements. Are they similar to the US in that aircraft without charging systems are exempt?
