United Airlines last week announced the start of its training program as the airline industry faces down projections of a massive pilot shortage over the next decade.

United projects that the academy will train around 5,000 new pilots by 2030 – fulfilling half of its plan to recruit 10,000 new pilots in that time to combat the shortage.

Airlines will need to continue such aggressive recruiting if they are overcome a shortage that may include 12,000 pilots in North America alone by 2023.

Boy I wish I did. I have been looking into this quite a bit. I would be walking around Florida in flip flops tomorrow. Low taxes, tons of GA, guns, bikinis……

Being 757/767 typed, I’ve been in contact with several of the US cargo companies such as Atlas and Kalitta. Still need to have US work authorization. Atlas said they’re looking into hiring Australians.

So far I have 2 friends actively going the NIW route and have paid close to $10k US in legal fees with nothing to show for it yet.

I told my wife next time around, I plan on marrying an old, rich, US gal with a heat condition.
