Here's the thing about warbirds (real ones, not tarted-up Cessna singles):

Either someone has enough money to fly one (and not enough skill), or

they have enough skill to fly one (but not enough money).

Smell the Venn diagrams. Two circles above, with an infinitesimal overlap.

Start naming guys that after a lifetime spent earning money, have also spent
another lifetime flying airplanes. A short fucking list, because who has 2 lifetimes?

I'd rather inherit skill and get knowledge from my ancestors, instead of money.
but I'm not a Good Canadian™.

I have an uncle with no kids, he has some coin. Told him I didn't want any of
his money in his will. Give it to someone else. Seriously. I know, I'm not a
Good Canadian™. Got that.

I first saw the video of this accident in 2012 and It changed the way I fly when I wear a parachute in my Nanchang and glider. After getting strapped in I rehearse the bailout actions with my hands moving in the correct order to touch the items I will need to use if I have to bail out. When everything goes for shit the actions have to be automatic as you probably are not going to have a lot of, or any for that matter, time to think. This guy survived because he was prepared.

My observation is that for most pilots the parachute is just a very expensive seat cushion as they have not made any effort to prepare themselves to use it.

As for the actual accident well all I can say is the guy in the Skyraider couldn’t manage a simple pitch up break without hitting lead…..are you FUCKING KIDDING

I am very selective who I fly formation with…….
