Slightly overpriced…

Nope. The one I'm talking about had the stock metal 2-blade prop replaced (a good move)
when it was N-registered, with a Hartzell 3-bladed composite "claw" prop when it first came
out. Marvellous prop, does hammerheads better than any other prop I've flown, but you will
shit your pants if you check the price on it.
Problem was, it bolted on, and it worked great, but there was no STC paper from Hartzell for
the claw on the (certified) S-2B.
So, the owner - a nice guy - told the FSDO - "it's Experimental - Exhibition now" and the FSDO
said "ok" and issued the pink C of A (not valid outside the USA).
Later Aviat added the claw prop to the aircraft type certificate for the very tail end of the S-2B's
in production, and for S-2C's - they were installed in Afton on all the new two-seaters.
So, the owner went to the FSDO and said "it's certified again now" and the FSDO said "cool"
and issued a standard white C of A which TC accepted for the import.

Not sure anyone cares, but to have a good airplane you need
(1) good engineering and
(2) good paper
I won't speak to (1) but there's a guy called Jim lives north of Toronto,
he is the master of (2). I think they call them LSTC's in Canuckistan?
I was always confused as how Jim got so good with the paper, because
I don't think he's an AME or a graduate engineer. A gift, I suppose, like an
arm that can throw a 110 mph fastball. Comes along maybe once in a
generation. I remember hearing that Jim was an olympic-class swimmer,
too.

There is a fellow at BFC that I believe flies for big red, he blocks the airspace above BFC and does aerobatics. I used to watch him while practicing circuits. Only other person I know that does that.
