Lear's don't need pavement. I used to know a dentist, flew his Lear off his farm.

It would get stuck sometimes, and he would tow it out of the mud with his tractor.

A guy up my way planned to do that, even bought the Lear and trailered it to his place. Seems like it never went all the way back together though rumour is he runs it every so often.

I had first spotted the jet from the air but it was out a pax window and my pilot was lost at the time so I didn’t know exactly where it was, couldn’t prove its existence, and had a hell of a time convincing coworkers I wasn’t hallucinating.

His previous airplane - a Piper Cheyenne - was much better in the mud.

You know him? Little guy, skinny, lots of hair sticking out in all directions,
kind of a wild look in his eyes. Older than the hills.

I thought he was amazing. When I met him, he said he had heard about me,
which scared the living shit out of me.

He ran an advertisement in the COPA paper, looking for a pilot with an instrument
rating. Reminded me of this:

He was old, many years ago. He can't possibly still be alive (and flying).

Everyone I know is dead. That's ok. It's only polite to wait until after someone
dies, to start telling the truth about them.

Actually, not everyone I know is dead. I have met two natural pilots in my life,
and after one of them dies, I can tell you the most incredible tales about what
he did, and how he did it. To call him a flawed individual would be the understatement
of the year, but what incredible hands and feet he has.

PS. I have been accused of being a so-called "natural pilot" and let me tell you,
that's complete bullshit. I have some aptitude, and worked harder at it for longer
than than anyone else, that's all. Motivation is the difference between an amateur
and a professional. Ask Neil Peart.

Never met him.
A long time ago[ mid 90s?] I saw him flying the Lear as I was approaching YOW
from the South
On another occasion, driving on the old 16, I could hear the sound of
jet engines coming from behind some tall trees, guess he was trying to
get unstuck
Guy at the OFC was his neighbor, had some anecdotes to tell
