Afghan and international media initially reported that a jet airliner had crashed near the town of Herat in Ghazni province. For a short period, the aircraft was believed to be a Boeing B737-400 operating for Ariana Afghan Airlines. The airline via a Facebook statement quickly denied these reports.
A video which has been now classified as genuine show the remains of the aircraft which clearly can be identified as the United States Air Force E-11A, “BACN” (Battlefield Airborne Communications Node). This aircraft is based on a Bombardier Global 6000. The aircraft registration 11-9358 is clearly visible on the tail section.
The crash site is located in the approach/departure path of Bagram Military Airbase (Afganistan) used by United States Military Forces. Taliban forces which operate in the region are claiming that they have shot down this aircraft. U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is yet to give an official statement regarding the crash.
Currently, the USAF operates all of its four E-11A BACN aircraft and all are deployed in Afghanistan.
