Especially in the summer, I like to peek
at the radar before I go flying.

Until you get some more experience, don't
try to fly VFR in precip, where the radar
returns are.  You might end up biting off
more than you can chew.

First thing I look at is the Big Picture:

Animating it is very helpful to understand
what it's going to do next:

If I want, I can zoom in on my region by
clicking:

http://www.intellicast.com/National/Rad ... large=true

and again, animate it:

If I want to zoom in:

https://weather.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=XFT

again, I can animate it by clicking on the play
triangle in the bottom left corner.

Full-blown wx geeks might like this:

for the really big picture!

What do you think of foreflight radar compared to some of these?

What about in-plane XM Weather radar products?

That shit can kill you if you try to use
it tactically instead of strategically.

Wasn't there a crash of a cirrus a few years ago they figured the pilot tried to thread the needle through a few TCU with that XM "radar"? The data was 15 mins old and he plowed right through killing himself.  :-\
