I’ve been flying in and out of LAX the last few weeks, and I’ve been seeing Air Canada’s 787’s taxiing around.
Seems like a heavy lifter just to be flying a route an Airbus 320/21 could handle.
I’m only an amateur, but I doubt they’re making money on that route with that bird. Seems odd.

I guess that would depend on the load - it's certainly possible to make money doing this.
It also allows for a lot more cargo which is also extra revenue.
Last year I flew an A340-500 around on short (2-2.5 hours) sectors around Europe. The aircraft can fly 20 hours non stop. My company made money - not sure about the Client.
