Dude, everything works a lot better when there is a billionaire writing the checks.  Unless that billionaire is Soros and the thing is being worked on is democracy......

I have observed that this warbird restoration thing sure works
a lot better when you have a billionaire writing cheques.

Funny that.

Speaking of warbird restorations. The Y2K Spitfire which was restored over the last few years at Vintage Wings will be flying to Vancouver Island this summer as agreed to when the airframe was moved to Vintage Wings to complete the restoration. They have an ambitions plan to go to Oshkosh, then out to BC and back.

Restoration ?  According to VWC its a replica , A highly accurate and beautiful one but a replica none the less . The project started out with a very corroded firewall that was traced to the original Y2K . It was not used in the build. There was also no original data plate. The aircraft except for the engine , instruments and some components , it is entirely scratch built. No disrespect intended as its magnificent work .

It's funny that as long as there is a data plate, it's a "restoration"  ;D

You can replace everything on the airplane but that!

I remember someone telling me about a drawer full
of Spitfire dataplates somewhere.  Duxford?

Yup that's true actually
Of the 58 plus Spitfires flying almost half are not original Spitfires .
They are New Build along the same line as the FW190's and ME262's that have been built

FWIW , if I was spending 3-5 mil for a Spitfire , I would want an actual one that has history

Meh, on a long enough timeline every airplane will become a Ship of Theseus anyways.
