good thread boys, learned something new.
"Will this be standard or non-standard?"

After I landed, I called up the CFI that did my BFR
(he's spent many years flying formation here, in Pitts
and Extra and T-6 and SF260) and he had no clue
what the Tower was asking, either.
In the context of IFR, the question makes sense.
I honestly suspect that what he meant to ask on
final, was are we doing an overhead approach and
break (normal) or formation landing (unusual) and
it came out garbled.
AFIAK we are the only people at the airport who
do formation landings. I see the odd, strung-out
formation takeoff, but even though the 150x5000
foot runway looks pretty big to us Canadian country
boys, it's small compared to others nearby.
PS I yell at Eric not to relax and space out during
the formation takeoff and landing. Looks like shit. I
want fuselage overlap during the takeoff and landing.
It comforts me to hear his prop at max RPM in my right ear.
Here's a picture, from many years ago, shortly after
I soloed him in the Pitts, flying off my right wing.

He's gotten a lot better since then, and flies a lot
closer. He's not as good a stick as an Air Canada
pilot (that can't use a comm radio or tries to land
on the taxiway) but here in the USA most people
think he flies ok.

Sounds like that is part of the problem. Has he read the AIM section on formation flying? Makes on wonder why he is doing BFR's for an aerbatic pilot like yourself. Might want to ask for your money back.

Maybe someday he will be good enough to land a smoke-filled airliner or a widebody jet that ran out of gas.

Somebody's feelings are hurt! Group hug, safe spaces everyone.

Be nice - he's flying regional jets now, [/quote]
So he is taking the first steps to be a REAL PILOT now?

You have to feel at least a little sorry for Neil:

So what was your reply to them?
1. Standard
2. Non-standard
3. None of your business
4. I have no idea as I didn't bother to read the formation/aerobatic flying section of the AIM for this country as I never imagined there might be differences.
5. Get me the number of any TC pilot to help me out of this situation as they know more than me about formation flying stuff.

Pull early, pull often.

Hey - stop looking down Mom's shirt, ok? I saw where your eyes were.
