I did not call you incompetent, because I have never flown with you.


My personal opinion is the whole flight training system in Canada produces a product that generally is far from proficient in flying skills and as an example I put forward this question.


How many class one instructors are competent enough to give instruction on simple certified training airplanes such as the Cessna 140?


If they are so lacking in flying skills they can not fly basic trainers then in my opinion they are far from the class one description.

I did not ask the question to answer it myself.


Do you feel my question is unfair to the class one instructors?


When I owned my flight school in the late eighties and early nineties there were more who couldn't than there were those who could.


But lets ask it another way.


Seeing as the Cessna 140 is a basic training airplane and has been around for over half a century and once was the most common training airplane in aviation would it not be reasonable to expect all class one instructors to have the flying skills to teach on one?


I am aware I may be seen as an asshole by some here but I at least am an asshole that expects a class one flight instructor to at least have basic flying skills.


Is having high standards as a pilot a negative thing in aviation today?

Shiny:  I'm not sure why you take it personally when
Chuck points out that flight training in Canada sucks.

We all know it's true.  And I spent 25 years of my life
trying to make it better, and all I got was personal
attacks from TC who hate me.

In the past you've mentioned that you've dealt with
some real donkeys at TC. 

Chuck and I hold them responsible for the abysmal
state of flight instruction in Canada, because [b]they
are the gatekeepers[/b].  For decades, they have had
sole responsibility for who can be an instructor,
who can teach them, and what skills and knowledge
they possess, and to what level.

And they have failed miserably.  Instructors are a
mirror image of TC: paper pushers that can't fly.

The Law of Inequality states that a student is
not going to be a better pilot than their instructor.

So, when their instructor lacks basic flying skills,
and can't use the rudder pedals, and is afraid of
slow flight and high alpha and crosswinds, well,
their students are worse.

And those students become instructors, who teach
even worse students.

It's not pretty.  And it is entirely the creation of
a completely incompetent TC, that fritter away
their time and resources on silly personal campaigns.

Shiny: case in point.  At my old FTU, a class 3
instructor, in my opinion above average.

1000TT and he was afraid to fly a Cherokee.

Fuck.  Easiest trainer in the world.  A 1000TT
pilot ought to be able to review the fuel system
in the POH and go.

But he couldn't.  He wanted a checkout.

And he was one of the good ones.

The bad ones are worse.

This is what TC wants.  This is not what Chuck
and I want.
