Lots of people don't care about how many hours their PPL took
Wow.  (80-45) x $200/hr = $7,000 extra that you
paid for worse instruction.

Holy shit.  Do you have any idea how much fun
you could have in a weekend in Vegas with that?

4 hours?  That much?

Way back in the mists of time, I taught an (again!) Air Cadet.  I'm pretty sure that after 1 hour I could have let him go solo, and he would have done a stellar job, but I couldn't tick off the pre-solo requirements that we had fast enough...

I was widely known as a slow learner.  And,
we couldn't spin the Maule - I had to do spins
in a 152 before I could solo.  That's why it
took a whole 4.0 to get me solo (on 2 types)
in a fuel injected constant speed prop taildragger
on pavement.

Seriously.

Had that airplane for 46 years now.  I soloed in
it, I did my initial class 3 IFR in it - now THAT
was dangerous - and my son soloed in it.

Air Canada's senior four-bar tried to fly an
identical Maule (except for the 220 Franklin)
and wrecked it, first time he tried to land it.

I was pissed at him.  Still am.  No need to do
that to a poor, defenseless airplane, even if
it had a Franklin.

I don't know how many hours he took for his ppl but this guy seems proficient at flying a home built. Maybe his prop maintenance could be better.

No, other folks. One was a 185 on amphibs, the other a Mooney. The gliders and cadets are stationed 100' off the runway right at the touchdown area so got a good view.

The Cessna wasn't a big deal - jacked up the plane, dropped the gear, started up and taxied off.

Ah yes, Dave Simmons set the short field landing
distance record.  We jacked him up, dropped the
gear, and off he taxiied.

Oddly a class 4 instructor decided to roll his tires
on the top of the parked 185 and land on the
remaining runway, despite the fact that I told him
over the radio that I had issued a NOTAM closing
the runway, and as a class 1 instructor I suggested
he land on the parallel grass, or runway 33, or
another airport.  We had to get rid of him after
that.  TC loves him, I am told, but from where I
was on the runway, he looked pretty fucking
dangerous to me.  I shudder to think what the
student learned.

Poor old Cole.  He was what, 75?  He told me
he heard the horn all the way down final.  He
did 100 hours of dual on the airplane.  Gear
down in the circuits.  Don't get me started.

Weird note: despite the low time on that engine,
it was garbage when they took it apart for the
strike inspection.  Corrosion from sitting too long,
waiting for maintenance, I was told.  A nice "fuck
you" from the avionics AMO that took most ofa
year to install all the toys in the panel that pilots
love.

Hey, were you there when the Texas Taildragger
from Cobden (grass runway) landed in a crab on
pavement and flipped over in front of you guys?

I admired your initiative, picking it up with a crowd
and carrying to off, but you got me in shit with the
TSB.  Not supposed to touch a crashed aircraft until
they release it.  I got yelled at.  Again.

Hey, remember when the puppy mill pilots tried to
land at night?

[/img]

It did not go well.  I understand both of those
pilots are now at Jazz.  Look forward to seeing
them in the newspaper again soon.

Remember when TC called in an air strike on
the old clubhouse?

[/img]

j/k - that was the fire department.  They like
it when stuff burns, I guess.  It really is the old
clubhouse burning down, though.  I miss it, but
the new one is so awesome.  You guys are always
using the toilets in it!!

[/img]

Guess who they're watching fly?  I won't mention
any names because the haters get their panties
in a crack, but it looked at lot like this:

We probably didn't fly very well compared to the
anonymous internet heroes here, with their great
skill, unmatched qualifications and shiny high
performance aircraft that they personally own,
but we have fun anyways.

Flight training in Canada is such a failure.
