Long term this won't be as good of deal for the USA, hear me out.
I believe that this is the swift kick in the ass Canada needs to become less dependant on trade with the USA. I am hopeful that this will finally break down interprovincial trade barriers that make it easier to trade with the USA vs our own country.
Many Premiers and leaders that previously opposed pipelines for political reasons are starting to figure out that Canada is a bad Monty Python skit funded by digging shit out of the ground.
Some are even starting to do basic math and realize that Modern economic money theory is bonkers and that if you're not brining in money there will be no money for your basic needs.
If Canada continues to subsidize the US with blocking our energy from getting market price on the international market we might as well just roll over now and become that 51 state because that is the situation we are in already.
If and I am slightly more optimistic about this than most this starts to happen such as Energy East and northern gateway can get pushed through because it's in the national interest of Canada we will see an about face for Canadian fortunes.
This needs to happen not just with oil but with everything, right down to dairy exports. This country is so controlled by special carve outs
and interest groups it fails to be competitive even at home.
Case in point stores in Alberta are selling beef from Argentina because its cheaper to import beef from all the way down there than buy local Berta beef because the cost to raise cattle etc is insanely high with taxes and cost of goods.
Canada always lags a little behind the USA and soon I believe we will have our own more polite version of DOGE here cutting waste and red tape. Withhold funds from jurisdictions that attempt to impede progress and most of all think the people who believe the status quo is just fine with everything from infrastructure to healthcare.
Something to think about while I'm on a rant is that our hospitals are not incentivised to treat patients.
If a Hospital is given a budget of 100 Million a year they get a cheque for that 100 million and it must last the year. No metric of patients treated etc so typically in the last quarter procedures ramp up to spend that money otherwise their budget will get cut.
This is only the case in Canada, other countries with national health care programs are paid to treat patients not horde money, the result is inefficient delivery of those services. And yet sticking with Healthcare as an example of how broken Canada is if you live in Quebec you are allowed to purchase private health insurance and get private health care for procedures that wouldn't be allowed in say Ontario.
Back on topic ( I do the weave like Trump) this bring me back to aviation and our completely idiotic obsession with shovelling money at Bombardier when it should be able to stand on it's own without our tax dollar backing it up.
A few folks on Toronto Island stood in the way of extending a runway that would have lead to Porter buying a shit ton of C-Series and thus likely saving the financials of Bombardier. No get fucked is what they should have been told, 1000 feet of runway Porter was going to pay for ain't going to save one fish from oblivion.
One Native band Hereditary chief said no to Northern Gateway pipeline, never mind that 140 said yes but one said no and we shut it down.
If a farmer said no to the St Lawrence Seaway or one person stood in the way of the Canadian Pacific Railway should they have shut down these programs ? Bullshit how about get Fucked would have been appropriate.
This is systemic in Canada today, we have let the inmates run the insane asylum. Those who scream the loudest are the only ones to have a say, Canada needs to collectively pull its heads out of our ass and shove a enema tube directly into Ottawa to get Canada back on track.
The infrastructure in this country is deplorable, any one who has flown into any airport in Canada and the USA can see we are a third world shit hole with a nice welcome sign. We can do so much better and if we don't, well I guess I can look forward to a wallet with greenbacks in it.

When I posted that, this was the last update I had. Sorry that my opinion upset you so much. But in that clip he states that there is nothing Canada can do to avoid the tariffs. And I should say that I was referring strictly to Canadian tariffs, if you feel he got a concession out of Mexico, that's your opinion, though I had been of the impression that those 10,000 troops were already enroute to the border before the threat of the tariffs became apparent. Because things change, as of this moment, the tariffs on Canada and Mexico are both on hold. I'm not sure what he extracted out of Canada, who had already acted to appease him with more spending on border security.
My point is that if there was nothing Canada could do to appease him in that instant, to me it seems the tariff threat at the time was only spiteful. He didn't want anything from Canada, he just wanted to cause it grief. So I guess that's his objective. Maybe he hates Canadians as much as he hates Mexicans. But now the tariffs are on pause, I'm not even sure what Trudeau has appeased him with. So its just confusing, except that my prediction is we're going to live with this uncertainty for the next four years, revisiting it every month or so. Maybe the uncertainty is the goal? The effect of which it will have is destabilizing and weakening the economies of America's two neighbors, which I can't see will help matters if border security is really the issue.
Personally I just think if Americans feel that there are issues with its relationship with Canada, there's more amicable ways of solving it. yeah, America is an economic juggernaut that could crush Canada if it wants to, but not without cost to everyone involved. It already gets a pretty good deal.
But enough of that. If one can't discuss things on this forum without being called a liar and not very bright, I'm not sure what purpose there is. Scud, feel free to delete this account.
The details of my life are quite inconsequential...

As I tell Canadians that tell me that "Trump is a BAD MAN" ... maybe you should stop voting for him?
And while you're at it, maybe stop voting for Fidel Castro's son? Not sure communism is working
out very well for Canada. When he took office ten years ago, GDP-per-capita was pretty well on
par in Canada and America. After 10 years of Trudeau, the GDP-per-capita of Canada's richest
province is less that the GDP-per-capita of America's poorest state, Mississippi. Is that what
Canadians wanted? I remember all you guys gushing like schoolgirls over his socks and hair.
A little less apathy and whining, and more doing about things that you can affect. Like your PM.
We get to choose our President. Not you.

Would you like me to post a picture of your PM dancing like a teenaged girl at the Taylor Swift concert during the terrorist riots in Montreal? I still don't understand why you guys are willing to destroy your economy for fentanyl and terrorists, but I never was a Good Canadian™

On July 4, 2017, an unnamed government source leaked that the Canadian government would apologize and pay CA$10.5 million in compensation to Khadr.

I find it interesting that Canadians trot out that such a small amount of drugs crosses the border into the US.
Maybe we are just letting a lot slip through. The Vancouver and Montreal ports are controlled by organized crime.
I think what has not be said, for very political reasons, is the soon upcoming free trade talks supply management is going to be on the table. And that is a sacred cow to Quebec.
And yes, critical minerals will appear on the table as well,
Trump’s threats remind me of a historical figure in Germany in the 1930’s who made impossible demands, and then annexed countries.

My suspicion is that Canada's Prime Minister does more damage to Canada than America's President.
Why did you vote for Hairdo Dolly again? Was it the socks?

Wow, still pushing Hilary’s failed narrative after all these years.
But what puzzles me is how somebody is supposed to be both Hitler and Stalin at the same time. You need to pick one character assassination and stick with it, ok?
