SANTIAGO – A Brazilian air force plane had an accident Thursday while landing at Chile’s Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva base in Antarctica, but no one was injured, the Chilean air force said.

The Hercules C-130 experienced the mishap in the morning and efforts are underway to recover the aircraft, provide logistical support and assist the crew and passengers.
The Chilean base is on King George Island in the South Shetland Islands, located some 4,500 kilometers (2,796 miles) from Santiago.
Initial indications are that the Brazilian plane’s landing gear may have failed, the Chilean air force said.

He clipped the fucking rock, landed short - only something hard would create that reaction with shrapnel flying -- damn --

There are portable 2 light PAPI systems - I'm guessing this runway didn't have anything like that.

is it just me or does the entire spinner assemble come off the number 1 engine.

It looked like the things flying off are his landing gear, so hitting the rocks seems plausable. 
I hope it happened in the early morning so their whole day wasn't ruined.

It's a pity the Brazilian aviation Authority doesn't teach 0/0 takeoffs and landings.

How exactly, Red Ribbon, would one conduct a 0/0 landing on to  that runway?

Be careful you are not quoting someone who has never actually flown this class of aircraft, into this type of airport.
All good to play with a small aircraft on a nice ILS equipped paved runway in Canada, and hold yourself out as an expert on all things aviation . But it certainly does not qualify someone to make that type of condescending remark about the whole Brazillian airforce.

Blowing snow can make your runway envirorment 0/0 for only the last few feet of descent.  Before that you can see through it.  Lots of pilots get surprised the first time it happens.  And from the videos, this was not a zero zero landing

I await for your answer of how to land on the contaminated runway at this airport in 0/0 is done.  In detail please including strip length, wind that day, vertical nav aids. And any special aircraft configuration/speed etc.  And how you know the Brazillian airforce does not teach zero/zero landings.
Maybe give a brief of how you would have done it.

I personally blame TC for not having one inspector capable of 0/0 landings and take offs. Maybe if they had 1000 hours on a pitts they'd be better pilots.

Andy sometimes over reacts but teaching 0/0 landings if you have an airport that they can be taught on is valuable practice.
