Sounds like everyone survived that. I heard there was one broken back and some pax with burns but not bad for an airplane on its roof with a wing missing.

Well flight from BGI to YYZ got cancelled in all this. Don’t get why they didn’t send it and hope YYZ got its shit sorted out in the 6 hours it takes to fly there or divert to YHM. Meanwhile they dicked around and finally cancelled it while I’m watching planes landing at YYZ on FlightAware.
Worst places to get stuck I suppose.

Loss of headwind shear on short final?

Must not have been carrying the gust factor speed on approach.
If target is 110 and it’s 20 gusting 30 I’ll fly 115.
Also the lack of flairing definitely didn’t help anyone.
I’ve been saying for awhile that the regionals are going to be the canary in the coal mine showing the declining experience level in the cockpit.

PPrune says there was 49 knots of headwind at 43 feet. The last VSI was -1100 FPM after the loss of headwind. They landed very short, just after the numbers.
I think the bottom dropped out on them as they crossed the runway threshold and lost 25 knots of airspeed and the crew sat there, shocked.

Sad that both their thrust lever hand where broken that day and no way to go around.

Fascinating how legacy media is suddenly completely uninterested in the pilots
See Barbara Coulter's interview on Bill Maher.

Unfortunately they have a recent example of that sort of reporting leading to focusing on all the wrong things. While I think they’re holding back for all the wrong reasons, maybe the outcome is still preferable considering all the fired up dumbass armchair experts out there looking to shore up whatever opinion they already hold.
If what I’ve heard of the crew is true it doesn’t really matter who they are as people. Sounds like the CA is a sim instructor out to get those minimum sectors for currency and the FO was pretty green and perhaps kind of weak to begin with. Individually they’re both probably fine and definitely needed for the airline’s operation but as a team they should have been avoided. I’m not exactly sure how you would better block trips for instructor currency but the present common method of having them pick up something on reserve, often with the most junior FOs, ain’t it.
