Turns out fewer and fewer pilots are going north or willing to do the fun flying anymore, I hear its because Jazz only requiring the fog a mirror test these days and you get a hat and uniform.
I'm thinking I should start building drones designed to haul the pop and chips and do the fire patrols. Anyone come across some Predators or Global Hawks on Kijjij lately?

I thought they were building colossal blimps to freight stuff up there.

Thanks Scud, I just laughed hard enough to make most of a A319 full of people look at me.

I'd do it in a heartbeat as soon as it starts to pay as well as other adventurous jobs that require one to go up north for a living. Until that happens I'll keep my day (and night, and afternoon) job that allows me to afford to do the fun flying on my days off.
Speaking of fun flying, this is what I was up to on Saturday:

Where is that?
I find it interesting to go to the old BCATP strips. Back when they had fresh pavement on them they probably looked like they would last forever. Now at many of them on the ground it's hard to tell where the runways were. I never thought grass could grow through asphalt.

Let alone trees! ;D It's Woodcock BC, CBQ8 (I can't believe it's still in the CFS, I've flown into far nicer places that were delisted years ago). It was built as a relief strip for RCAF Station Smithers sometime around 1943. The detachment there usually had about 30-40 men on strength during the war. I believe the RCAF abandoned it in the early 60s.

Someone should grab some chains or really good ropes and the keys to that tractor. Pull the trees, get a shovel and a tamping device. Voilà , the runway would be terrific for several years.
Anything interesting near by to visit or just the strip? Looks fun just to pop by and look at aviation related ruins, that's something I often enjoy.

It's a short but hard bushwhack away from the Skeena River, I was there for the salmon fishing (no luck). I did see an old building in the bush when I was flying out of there that might be worth checking out.
