Depressing or just plain scary?

Reading Avcanada for entertainment I see someone is asking about insurance on his Cessna 180 float plane.

One of the posters is telling him a Cessna 180 float plane is like a race car and very hard to fly.

He also claims to be a commercial float plane pilot.

Wow...has aviation really been dumbed down to that level?

I have decided it is truly scary to think the public is being flown on a commercial airplane by someone that thinks a Cessna 180 on floats is difficult to fly....Jesus I just can't believe how this industry has gotten to this low a level.

Forget the crazies Chuck! I'd like to read more in Scuds Tall Tales see below plus I'm thinking you must have some bombing stories we'd all like to read about!

The Highs and Lows of International Flying.
Then if you have not had enough I can take you on a tour of Africa flying for the French TV Company TF1 it was the most challenging and dangerous flying I have ever done with everything from Desert sand storms, to monstrous thunderstorms to filming in a war zone in the Sahara Desert and living with the Nomads for several weeks. MORE PLEASE!

I am pleased you enjoyed those stories, but they were written many years ago when I was away from home with nothing to do.

There was a time when I was going to write a book of short stories but it is really difficult to write something that a publisher will take.

The world has changed and the means of communication has changed as each generation comes on the scene they become more and more insulated robots that only communicate on their hand held devices and the only person to person interaction is when they run into each other because they are walking head down reading their devices.

Hell some of them are unable to actually read and write in full words let alone complete sentences.

The reason there are so many pilots with poor airplane handling skills is the TCCA Flight Training Department is a haven for pilots who could not make it commercial aviation and they end up controlling the training in the FTU's.

Case in point is they hired B.P.F. out here in the Pacific Region.

Until there is a complete cull of the management in TCCA Flight training there will only be a downward trend.

I have taught flight training inĀ  lot of countries and Canada is way down on the scale of good flight training.

I held flight training authority to teach from the following regulatory bodies.

FAA.....USA.

CASA.....Australia.

JAA.....Europe.

Those licenses took a lot of time and cost on my part and were far harder to get than my Canadian instructors rating which I got in 1955.

That is my own personal opinion formed from my experience in the training business since the mid fifties.

We the taxpayers get to pay for it.

And B.P.F. will get promoted to a better paying position.

Did you ever find out if he ever got to fly as Captain during his time in the fire bombers?

Last I heard from one of the top people in the company it would have been unlikely.

I agree with Jmack. Forget RedLazer and tell us about living with Nomads for weeks.

Do it Chuck it will be good for everyone.
