Companies who took part in an industry day outlining government plans were told
the jets, dating from 1982, will be retired after 50 years of service
Insane. Pilots will be flying tactical airplanes twice their age.
Oh, Canada.
Ironic note: the guy responsible for the amazing and long-lasting
F-15 / F-16 / F-18 would surely be deeply hated instead of feted
by the bureaucrats if he visited Ottawa today.
He Helped Plan Desert Storm, Saved the F-15, a Famous Fighter Pilot…But You’ve Never Heard of Him
Boyd formed a small advocacy group within Headquarters USAF that dubbed itself the “Fighter Mafiaâ€.
Using his E-M Theory, Boyd spurred the USAF to explore a lightweight fighter (LFW) program.
This led to the development of the YF-16, which would become the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon,
and the YF-17, which would become the Navy’s F-18 Hornet.
The USAF always hated the A-10. They tried to kill
it since the day they started taking delivery of them.
The only reason the USAF built the A-10 was to stop
the money falling into enemy hands - you know, the
navy and the army.
I would have loved to fly an A-10. Down low, pulling
lots of G with the biggest gun around. Heaven!!

Why should the fighter guys have it any better than the Sea King guys?

Or the B-52 guys?

The A-10's dropped a metric shit ton/hour on Mosul.
Hearing them check-in with the TAC-P, and listening to the 9-lines. Awesome!
"(A10 callsign) SPLASH!"
Loved it!
You're right, the MotherFucking USAF is a jealous school child when it comes to aircraft procurement. The C27J project is the perfect example.
