Spark Plugs For The Piston Guys

If you have product in your hair, and you're climbing into
the right seat of a Boeing at 300TT, stop reading now -
you're a lost cause.
Spark plugs are incredibly expensive for aircraft piston engines -
even the cheap "massive electrode" ones that most people
use. Unlike the automotive world, we clean / re-gap / replace
spark plugs. The spark plugs in a piston aircraft engine can
be very old indeed.
A little secret for you: for years, Champion sold shit spark
plugs that developed high resistance over time. This caused
arcing and internal damage to magnetos.
They denied it, so we started buying Unison. Champion has
quietly fixed the problem, but you probably have their shit
spark plugs in your engine with incredibly high resistance.
The Big Lebowski Tip For Aircraft Maintenance: change
your oil and spark plugs frequently. I just bought Cdn$1000
of spark plugs for just two of my four aircraft. Probably more
than that - there was Cdn$400 of taxes and shipping on that
order which admittedly included a few cases of W100.
