Used to have the ADF receiver on the top right installed in the DC-3. The boxes in the avionics racks used vacuum tubes if I remember correctly.
They worked really well - the KR-87's were nowhere near as good.

Tubes!  You win Nark's Luddite award  ;D

I remember some guys preferred the Bendix T12C to the KR87 ...

Kind of a 1911 .45 vs Glock 9mm thing ... don't get me started on .30-06 vs .308
I have a 12v adapter but it barely puts out enough juice to charge it.  Not enough amps I suspect."

I have dual USB adapter that puts out 2.4 amps per receptacle and will charge the iPad and a cell phone.
You are correct in that the normal adapter just slows down the battery drain on an iPad running Foreflight...

Oddly enough Col,  I have that exact dual port USB adapter.  I run my Stratux with one, and whatever accessory I have.  Gopro for example.

I just got it, and will use it for the iPad next flight.

Incidentally, will be tomorrow to check out a PA28R for a friend.  (Im buttering him up to buy it).  It's a gem covered in cow poop at the moment.

Weird.  I wonder how many amps you’re getting?

PS with RG I spend more time cleaning the bottom
of the airplane than the top.  :D

Col:

Nearly caught the plane on fire today.  The shitty Chinese piece of shit dual USB charger grounded out after I started the engine.
My keys dangle just enough where I suspect caught “live” portion of the charger. Sparks and smoke. Woke my wife up after her KC BBQ coma.

An IA came over (I had been chatting with him a while) to see why I shut down so soon. It’s not the 12v receptical It’s properly wired and still puts out a charge (voltage).

Dang gone Chinese amazon POS.
