I feel like this would suit my current wants pretty well:

What's the definition of "very fast"?

I think they get into the 150s pretty easily on a small four cylinder Continental. The fastest W-10 out there has been doing 245 this year which is pretty hot for an O-320 powered strut-braced cabin two seater, IMO.

On May 18, 1958, an F-104A set a world speed record of 1,404.19 mph, and on December 14, 1959, an F-104C set a world altitude record of 103,395 feet. The Starfighter was the first aircraft to hold simultaneous official world records for speed, altitude and time-to-climb.
You could drive them around at 1000 mph at the surface. Apparently it really
kicked up the rooster tail. Very high wing loading gave a nice ride.
Weirdly, it was not airframe limited for speed. It was limited by the engine
temperature. An inlet air temp of 121C was the max IIRC, increased on
later versions of the J-79.

Ok, one more before I hang up the headset. Obviously this flying thing’s not working out. I’m not sure I am going to be able to get 1000 hours by the time I am 25.

EDIT: Also that is a sweet aircraft.

Very sweet. My racer originally had horizontal tail surfaces off of one of those but I suspect it’s getting Champ tailfeathers in the eventual restoration.

Kinda wish this one wasn't OM, I still prefer a tail dragger but dam this little bird is clean,

Don’t think I could spend more than 30k on a 150 and she would have to be mint.
