Get someone independent who knows what they’re looking at and if they give the nod and you want it then go for it. You’ll want (borderline need) to hangar it and be smart enough to pull the pin and sell it if it’s not what you wanted for one reason or another. Assuming you don’t break the thing it will likely never be worth less than what you paid.

Northwestern Ontario is the best kept secret in Canada. Most people living in ontario don't even know that ontario extends past Muskoka - I'm even in a different time zone.

I have lived in NWO since I left home in the 60's. There were years of living in other parts of Canada but here I are, retired living by the lake.

You biggest decision is whether you want a little float plane or something on wheels.

Travelled through Muskoka often, spent from 2014 to 2020 on CFB Petawawa. I can see the attraction for a float plane. The wife and I are only down here near Brampton..... (don't even ask) because she is now posted to Borden so I am doing my flight training here. But the second I'm done it Thunder Bay for us.

I learned to fly at Brampton, grew up in Brampton and Pembroke - I'm more a "valley boy" and never admit the Brampton part  although it was much different in the 50's and 60's

The BFC I flew at was not that of present day. The location of the club was at Queen and McLaughlin Rd, 2 grass strips 1800' long with power lines and trees on the approach of 2 runways. It was such a wonderful environment to learn and fly out of.

Hope the great escape comes in due course --

You will be glad to know it's snowing here today

Well they still have two runways, one of them, the shorter one (2500') has a displaced threshold because of some train tracks and a small tower, they are listed as 70' wide but if you read the fine print they are "40' wide paved centers" which always makes me laugh.

The school seems like its run well enough, lots of planes, and instructors, maintenance seems pretty good. But its not my type of school, its always crazy busy and I definitely do not fit in.

I was interested in going to Owen Sounds FTU but they dropped the commercial program, that seems like more my type of school, and Genisis is the only other CPL option around me but they fly all diamonds and the prices are much higher per hour.

I lived in Beachburg for a bit when I was first posted, my wife lived in Pembroke once we got together we lived on base. She is from Orangeville originally hence the other reason we are here.

I'll take the snow although it is gorgeous here right now, Sioux Lookout is my second choice if TBay doesn't work out for me. We take our dog and little guy snowshoeing all the time, build shelters and camp, that little bugger could survive for days out there.

I went into the "new" BFC back in the 70's in the middle of the night with a cessna 402, yup runways were pretty narrow and the reaction of the club when they arrived the next day and found such a "big" aircraft parked there. It was pretty funny at the time.

Haha ya its "snug" There is a Pilatus PC12 kept there sometimes and it seems like it would be tight to land there.

Nice view, I would take either of those for sure. I'm land locked for now but the sunrise if pretty nice. Got out to BFC and flew another hour of circuits this morning.
