When it veered right,

to get some air over that rudder! Get airborne, get your heart rate
under 200, figure out what's going on and try again, knowing about
the failure.

This should not have come as a surprise.
On the retracts, better to check for brake pressure after the gear is down instead of doing it before.
Or if at all which seems to be the case here, judging from him verbalizing his flow.
