I can't justify a 185, when a 180 will do!

Eric, yes absolutely correct about the 2020 ADS-B mandate.  It's only for ADS-B out.

The thought process for me, I'm already cracking the nut to either:
1, buy and install a Garmin GDL 82 for $2100+ labor,
or
2:Spend a few more G's and put in an IFR GPS +Loc/VOR which makes the bird a much better IFR machine.

I'm leaning towards option 2.

This is some good reading Nark.

The 180 is a real going places machine, they usually beat the 182 and 206 for a nice cruise speed, and real usable space and load, you'll usually overbulk before over weighing it unless you're packing around drill bits or something.

I think you mean rock eaters but I chuckled imagining a plane packed full of boxes of 1/4 inch high speed steel drill bits.

Here's a pic of our pc12ng filled with drill bits and drilling tools.

They can take up a lot of room

Very nice!

PS  My favorite (single-engine) Cessna would be a C185
with a turbo-normalizer.  With even a breath of tailwind
you could file IFR in the teens, using one of those kevlar
O2 tanks with a cannula, and get some decent ground
speeds ... and then land on a 500 foot grass strip!

My favorite twin Cessna would probably be the 421.
Like the Pitts and the -104 and the mootoo, people
hate them, which means it's a great airplane in the
right hands.

The 421 was Cessna's finest hour.

Agreed, looks great even inverted.

Now if I ever show up you can take me for a ride full tanks. Maybe we could even go fishing or something like camping on one of those islands you posted the picture of.

It probably will never work out but it's fun for me to think about it. :)

Congratulations nice to see.
