Just sitting around killing time today and figured I would post a few questions here to keep the forum interesting.
So here is the question.
When I learned to fly the minimum requirements to be a pilot were no different than being a truck driver except maybe the medical part.
Education requirements were the ability to read and write as well as understanding basic math.
Also you had to be able to identify the colors red, yellow and green.
The rest was paying for the training and passing written exams and flight tests, which had I believe was something like 60% to pass.
Is it any more difficult today, and if so why?
Another question.

I think it is definitely more difficult to afford flight training today than it was in the past. I also think it is tougher to find a good flight school and/or instructor that cares about more than taking your money... But as far as basic requirements go I don't think it is any tougher.
When I learned to fly I was making $140.00 a month driving a delivery truck.
The cost of a PPL was $300.00
It was $8.00 per hour solo ant $10.00 per hour dual.
So how does that compare to the cost today?

The cost was less when I learned to fly because we only needed to fly 30 hours instead of todays 45 hours, but the hourly rate was about the same based on what we earned.
Another interesting fact, we learned on tail wheel airplanes because the land o' matic Cessnas had not yet been invented.
Oh, and the government payed $150.00 towards our license.
And there were no user fees because government services were paid for in our taxes.
Then as Canada became more and more socialistic we are where we are today.....

And how did we get in debt?
Are you suggesting Canada is not a socialist country?
