I keep reading about using your pilot tool kit on these aviation forums.
When I learned to fly they never gave me one of those tool kits, should I buy one now or can I get along without it?
And where do I go to find one?

It appears to be "out of stock" so every pilot must have got one for Christmas

Thanks Scud, but the reason I asked was because some instructor was talking about using your toolkit to do x/wind landings.
So how do you use that tool kit to do a x/wind landing?
Maybe use a wrench to tighten your nuts just before landing if the x/wind is really difficult?

A long-dead CFI I knew, wouldn't go flying
without a pair of pliers.
He once had a vernier throttle (I think) come
apart on him, and pieces ran everywhere in
the cockpit.
Without pliers it would have been annoying.
He was a little odd, though. I remember he
and my Dad flew to OSH. Straight across Lake
Michigan, of course. Single engine. And a
tank ran dry. Unfortunately he was pouring
tea at the time out of a thermos, so it took
him a while to get around to the fuel selector.
I mean, he had to finish pouring the tea,
hand the cup to my Dad, find the top to
the thermos, screw the top securely back
on the thermos, stow the thermos, and then
oh yeah, there's a windmilling prop out
front, we've been descending towards Lake
Michigan for a while now. Time to finally
switch tanks, but first he had to pull the
throttle back.
I miss the old guys. Oh yeah, TC hated
this old CFI. 30 years as an instructor,
stopped logging after 7,000 hours of dual
given, he knew more about instructing
than any TC Inspector. So, they pulled
his instructor rating one flight test. They
got their man.
I remember another old CFI. He was a
class 2, running a large flight school. Good
stick. Tried to upgrade to class 1. Spent
the whole day in the classroom, and at
the end of it, the TC Inspector took great
pride in failing him.
What an asshole. I guess the TC Inspector
wasn't smart enough to figure that out in
the first hour. Where do they find these dolts?!
