This is one thing that should have been changed decades ago.
Far as I can tell it’s not a very big fix to convert most engines to run on the UL Avgas

I have been warning for decades about the hippy scourge that is plaguing humanity. But no did they listen to me ?and now look at this mess.

Santa Clara County banned leaded 100LL some time ago. Long story. Incredibly corrupt county. Sheriff was removed from office by a superior court judge for corruption and perjury.

They are now selling only UL94 which I think is 100LL without the lead. You can run it in some engines but not all. For example the Lycoming 260hp parallel valve engine with 8.5:1 compression is eligible for the Swift Fuels STC but the Lycoming 300hp angle valve engine with 8.7:1 compression is not eligible and cannot run 94UL. Anything with positive displacement (MP over 30 inches) is no bueno.
See Lyc SI 1070AB for more info.

The good news is that my buddies flying out of RHV report considerably less fouling with 94UL vs 100LL. You still have carbon deposits, I guess, but no lead deposits. Note that AvBlend - the most expensive FAA ether you will ever purchase - will soften carbon, but not lead.
