So I was over at Landmark Monday, look out the window ramp side and see a 172. A like minded individual that would rather cough up the ridiculous fees than take a cab into the city. I was somewhat impressed/surprised to see it. N

ow if we can just get a club to open up there again with a couple of rental planes maybe a super cub or something.

Didn't they ban flying schools or clubs from using YYC or did they just implement expensive landing fees to drive them out?

With YYC owning Springbank they really have alot of the GA community by the short hairs.

Too many rumours to know. I think the fees just cleared everyone out. Student pilots as a rule will avoid a school if it is 50 cents more expensive than the next guy.

I read on AvCanada once there was talk of banning anything under a particular gross weight but obviously that never happened.

I remember decades ago people with student pilot permits had to have an instructor ride out of YYC to Beiseker or YBW then depart there to fly solo.

I flew in to yyc with single a year or so ago... wasnt my plane, so I didnt see the landing fees..

Its cool to land there, but is really a pita, and fuel was $$$$$$$

I actually did my second solo flight from YYC! (many moons ago!)

I remember going in and out of YYC back in 2007 on a Piper Warrior with my buddy as PIC and me being his trusty radio jockey.. He used to work at the Esso there and wanted to visit everyone... They let him park in their giant warm hangars for free and if I remember correctly we didn't pay anything to land or take off.. Either there was none back then or the Esso guys spoke to the airport and got it sorted out?
