* Current Group 1 IFR

At least they’re hiring? I know an awful lot of out-of-work pilots and I’d be one too if it weren’t for a really weird and expensive agreement the company had with the guy I replaced. As it is I’m still ten years behind where I was over the summer. Womp womp.
I chatted with a friend yesterday, another guy laid off from the majors, and he was saying some of the job ads he’s been looking at either directly or indirectly specify that they’re not looking for experienced pilots. We couldn’t decide if that was because they wanted fresh meat that would stay 5-6 years now, or if they knew a lot of furloughed guys taking a step or two back would be assholes about it.
I’m starting to think my “May you live in interesting times” fortune cookie was more of a curse.
This is in line with the very old advice that you will be furloughed
three times in your career, which will probably span about 30 years.
Very true statement unless you are one who decided to work for a "remote" area carrier that has lots of freight to haul. The freight biz has just gone crazy and going this route gives about the most "job security" you can possibly hope for in this industry. The freight dogs, dogs of night, are sitting pretty compared to the people haulers. This goes back to circa 2012 but FedEx crews had the best contract of any pilot group.
