Another Moose down https://www.murphyair.com/detail/moose.html pretty sad, I knew the guy checking out the low timer. I guess it will be interesting to see if it was structural, engine failure or just too much aircraft for a low time pilot.

Regardless it looks like that kit it a lot of aeroplane.

The inaccuracy is that, and I know Joe public would not see the difference, but there was no instructor on board, a high time pilot doing a checkout on an aircraft that was not well known to him or the guy that owned it. Such is life and death in the kit plane and home built world.
It's an enigma that seems to have no solution.

That old-fashioned stuff that no one needs any more, or so I am told.

I used to be the guy in Eastern Ontario that did this. I would jump into
a strange airplane - that had possibly never flown, or flown in years - and
give dual in it to the new owner. I was deeply hated for it.

A lifetime of accident-free flying, of more weird-ass types than you can imagine.
Canadians are world-class experts at jealousy.

When I was young and dumb, I thought if I worked hard at becoming a good
pilot, and learned the regulations, that would be the right thing to do.

What a moron I was.

In Canada, if you become a really good pilot, you are hated and envied.

Worse, if you know the regulations, you're considered a barrack-room
lawyer and hated by the bureaucrats. No one understands the regulations,
they just ask someone else about them.

Combine the two, you are the Anti-Christ and MUST BE DESTROYED, or so
I got the impression from Arlo @sswipe and Rotten Ronnie over many, many years.

Oh, Canada.

Solution: live someplace where you are nobody. It's fucking awesome. This

Musk has from time to time expressed dismay with investors who bet against his company. In 2018, he sent a box of short shorts to hedge fund manager David Einhorn and last November offered to send him more.

TC used to pull my licence. I didn't care. Didn't affect my income, and only
affected single-seat aircraft. I remember I called up the insurance company
and had Darren Raycroft, a young friend of mine with a CPL-MEL added to the
421 policy and told him to sit in the back and log multi PIC while I flew.

Darren was nervous about the arrangement - which was perfectly legal (see
above reference to regulations) - and that TC was going to punish him for it.

This is really quite something when you think about it, because of course he
went on to commit several murders. Amazing that a killer is afraid of TC.

TC is very, very effective at intimidation. Terror, even.

Incapacitation will be looked at as well. Always a possibility, especially for an older guy.

A source tells me that after three days investigating on site the TSB has taken the wreckage back to the lab. Pretty unusual for an amateur-built airplane, IIRC.

Not sure that makes much difference. After 10 years, the TSB will publish a bilingual report
that is of absolutely no use to anyone. It's just another useless government sinecure, and they
don't honestly care that their lack of timeliness (and competence) is a safety issue.

The TSB isn't in the business of safety. They are in the business of creating great government
jobs with short work days, light workloads and defined benefits and awesome pensions that
don't exist in the private sector.

IMO it makes a huge difference. With a lot of amateur built accidents the TSB shrugs and figures the plane was close to a one-off so there’s nothing to prevent.

Sadly you’re right about their report-writers often having an agenda but I’d like to think there’s some good in there too.
