The former-Navy pilots that I flew with reminisced about eating sauerkraut and beer the night before flying overwater and then wearing "poopy suits", a tight-fitting rubber immersion suit. They said they would pass so much gas which couldn't escape that they would swell up like the Michelin Man. Then it was a rush to be the first to stick out their arm towards each other and then peel back the suit at their wrists.
Must've been quite the blast...
