1959 - Buddy Holly, Ritche Valens (and 2 others) killed in a Bonanza (VFR into IMC)

1963 - Patsy Cline (and 3 others) killed in a Piper Comanche (VFR into IMC)

1967 - Otis Redding (and 6 others) killed in a Beech 18 (approach in WI in winter)

1970 - Marshall Football Team (total 75 people) killed in a DC-9 (LOC only - no ILS)

1973 - Jim Croce (and 5 others) killed in a Beech 18 (night takeoff without a climb)

1977 - Lynyrd Skynyrd Band (6 people) killed in a Convair (ran out of fuel)

1980 - Stevie Ray Vaughan (and 4 others) killed in a Jetranger (VFR into IMC)

1991 - Reba McEntire Band (8 people) killed in a HS125 (CFIT instead of airspace violation)

1996 - Ron Brown (and 34 others) killed in a 737 (NDB approach - no ILS)

2001 - Aaliyah (and 8 others) killed in a C402 (too many causes to list)

2010 - Lech Kaczynski (and 95 others) killed in a TU-154 (NDB approach - no ILS)

Don’t forget the Robby with one of the Montgomery Gentry guys last year.

I had assumed that was an intentional omission.  John Denver was his own pilot who unfortunately died for one of the dumbest of reasons.

All of those listed were non-pilot and notable passengers that died in perfectly
functioning airplanes, until the impact.  I am sure I have missed many more.

There are many, many lessons to be learned from history, but here's one:

Of the 256 deaths above, 206 (80%) would have been avoided by this
lesson which I keep repeating over and over again:
