The Falkland Islands government has taken delivery of a new Britten-Norman BN2B-26 Islander, supplementing a fleet of decades-old BN2Bs. Britten-Norman recently delivered the new Textron Lycoming O-540-powered aircraft to the Falkland Islands Government Aviation Service (FIGAS). Image The new aircraft has Garmin avionics, including G600TXi primary displays, and terrain-alert systems. FIGAS uses Islanders to operate passenger flights to remote communities. The types also carry cargo and mail, and to perform air-ambulance and environmental monitoring flights. Image Falkland Islands Government Air Service recently received this BN2B-26. Seen here at Juan Santamaria International airport in Costa Rica. FIGAS has operated Islanders since the 1970s and has four of the aircraft in its fleet, according to the UK airframer.
